What personal data AvarLab collects, why, and the choices you have.

Last updated: June 2026. AvarLab is a non-commercial, open-source academic project. We keep data collection to the minimum needed to run the site.

What we collect

Account information

When you register, we store your username and email address. Your password is never stored in readable form — it is kept only as a salted cryptographic hash.

Contributions

Dictionary suggestions, corpus examples, audio uploads, and similar contributions you submit are linked to your account so we can review and credit them.

Why we ask for your email

Your email address is used solely for account-related purposes, such as recovering access to your account. We do not sell or share it, and we do not send marketing messages.

How long we keep it

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal data; contributions already accepted into the dictionary or corpus may be retained in anonymised form as part of the language record.

Your choices

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at kebed.zagidov@upf.edu.
